Community Tasting Notes 11

November 21, 2016 - This was surprising. Many years ago I used to back up the truck on Remejeanne from Chambers St as they consistently punched well above their weight, but I hadn't had one in years. Picked this up locally in NC for about $12 and forgot about it for maybe 3 years. Opened for my wife and her not-so-fussy friend and had a glass of the leftovers. Has really nice cherry/grenache pop, and is very reminiscent of a good beaujolais, seeming to have some notes of carbonic maceration. Fresh and juicy and easy to drink.

June 19, 2015 - Aromas of red berries and green pepper, toast and meat...a touch of alcohol warmth but with aggressive agitation aromas of herbs; thyme, rosemary and flowers, especially lavender, come to the fore. The palate is less rewarding than the nose though, which is disappointing. A little sour with red berry fruit, poached peppercorn and talc textured tannin that dries out a little on the mid palate. I think it needs simply flavoured food and is pleasant enough for the price point.

May 2, 2015 - From Coravin. Green peppercorn, red berry...more of the same on the palate with fine tannins. Okay.

February 24, 2015 - Basic cotes du rhone; I thought flavor profile was average without any "off" taste; not special but not bad.

December 2, 2014 - On the nose there are aromas of green and black peppercorn, sour red fruits, sweet spices and a slightly burnt meat, toast undertone. Also a slight cream, vanilla and floral top notes...almost lavender. Weird. touches of leather. On the palate though it's not as much fun, a little short and out of whack. Hmm. The peppery notes translate but there is something unpleasant about the tannin profile that makes me screw up my face. The application of beef skirt stew does improve things a little - the unpleasant tannins happily bind to the cow protein leaving muted green peppercorns and red currants. Quaffable with food.
