June 24, 2023 - Coming off self imposed hiatus—first reds in over a month, decided to do old(er) and too young to test my taste buds. 08 Dana Lotus & 19 Addax Lynne.
Popped and into the decanter, trial sips with a small pour at 30 min for an early impression. Some bricking already apparent, initial nose was more earth than fruit, black tea, dried tobacco, menthol, peppercorn, on the palate, a bit of dried black fruit, red berries, sour red cherry, more black tea. Tannins still provided a pucker on a medium finish, though it seems air may help, time will tell.
Over the course of 4 hr drinking window, the notes remained constant, somewhat simplistic, but the air did indeed tame the tannic bite on the back end. This was a well made wine, just not in my wheelhouse. Nevertheless, this was outclassed by a ‘19 Addax Lynne with 4hrs of air. -

January 29, 2023 - Not sure what to make of this, drank as PnP and over 2 hrs. Ok, underwhelming, muted, not bad. Hard to find something wrong with this but also hard to find some good about this. Good, not great, not bad….Just ok.

July 15, 2021 - Decanted over cocktails. Silky and pure on the palate with still-youthful tannins, blackcurrant, herb sand spices, and lots of umami. This is a very well-made wine with a different flavor profile than most Napa Cabs. Stood up to escargot in garlic butter. Super.

February 5, 2020 - First bottle from a batch bought at release. Brought to Gibson's Italia for dinner with Joe V, decanted for about 2 hours prior, drank over 90 minutes.
Dark, inky red/purple, no signs of age. Nose jumping out of the glass (and decanter) dark fruits, graphite, vanilla/oak. Rich palate showing blackberry, blue fruit, licorice, black currants, some cocoa on mid palate. Full body, long finish. Smooth texture mouthfeel, some tannins still present
This is an impressive wine. Higher elevation fruit source shows in ripeness - certainly a big wine but not overdone stylistically. 08 in Napa is underrated (IMO), my wines from this vintage have all aged nicely and seem to have a good arc still ahead - this is no different. Dana is pricey, opinions differ on what is worth it. Both of us thought this was spectacular. -

December 24, 2019 - Decanted two hours; dark brooding red; deep intense dark red fruit, dark licorice; lots of tobacco, power, bit of chocolate, slight bite of tannins at the end, but otherwise creamy smooth; interesting complexity, clearly on the powerful masculine side - not for the fainthearted
