July 28, 2022 - Mostly Giacosa dinner (RPM Italian, Washington D.C.): Clear dark red. Fully mature nose displaying sweet red fruit, cherry, dry cherry, leather, sweet spices, sous bois and iron. Medium concentration, subtle clean red fruit, soft and warm, bright acidity, iron mineral, and a medium long subtle red fruit driven finish with sour cherry and iron at the end. This is a bit cleaner and less concentrated than the 67 Barolo. Lucky to try it again.

September 5, 2021 - From a lovely looking bottle (pictured) with a bottom neck fill, this wine had light red/orange rims and a red center. The nose was low intensity at first but grew to medium intensity with notes of rhubarb, roses, tobacco, roasted meat, and some tar.

In the mouth, this wine was very light and rounded at first. several experienced tasters thought it was a Burgundy. However, as it aired the light rounded tannin became more and more firm and integrated.

This was a stunningly beautiful bottle that was best after 5 hours in a decanter. Top notch!

May 27, 2018 - Giacosa weekend - lunch at Masseria (Masseria, DC): Fully mature nose displaying subtle cherry fruit, caramel, leather, sweet spices and damp earth. Beautifully integrated palate, warm and round red fruit, quite soft with only a hint of tannins, bright acidity, good mineral presence and a medium to long subtle red fruit driven finish with caramel and leather at the end. This is a fully mature Giacosa with mostly tertiary expression where the fruit expression is indistinguishable. If you are a fan of fully mature Giacosa, you will find this very special. Decanted at home, it threw a lot of sediment. A very rare bird.
