June 12, 2019 - Needs at least 1 hour in the Decaunter

April 2, 2019 - This ripe and integrated Cabernet is stunning right now, with rich flavors, a silky mouthfeel, and impeccable balance for such a modern wine. Dark purple in color; full in body; nose of fresh blueberry, black licorice, cocoa powder, and warm rosemary. Luscious tastes of blackberry, plum, mocha, and freshly-ground pepper, with a silky and round finish. Blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. 14.8% alcohol. Decant at least an hour, since the air helps it blow off some of the sweetness. Drink in next few years. 96+.

December 1, 2018 - Tight and wound up at first. Popped and poured-no decant. Would have benefited from a decant. After about 1 hour, really began to open up and show its personality. Truly a Bordeaux style wine, with a very old world feeling to it. Dark looking with lots of red fruits on the nose. Tannins were still present but not so gripping. Finish was long lasting and had hints of cherry and tobacco in it. Definitely and enjoyable wine. This vintage has many more years of cellaring. A Coravined bottle previously.

June 12, 2018 - What a beautiful wine this was! I had been waiting for the right occasion to open the 2009 OVID Napa Valley, as I had had this once before several years ago and it was the best bottle of wine I had ever had up to that point! I finally decided to host a 2009 vintage tasting and ended the night with this. What a complete wine this was. Complex, huge structure, and yet so refined. Tobacco, earth, dark fruit, cherry cola. It had shed a lot of the primary fruit since the first time I tasted it (I think between 2013-2014). I kept going back to it and just closing my eyes to smell it. It’s a pondering wine. Makes you appreciate life and the moment you’re in! Winner amongst the 4 of us against a lineup of 2009...
Knightsbridge Dr. Crane Vnyd Cab, Paul Hobbs Las Piedras Vnyd Cab, Ridge Torre Vnyd Merlot, and Joseph Phelps Insignia.
