Community Tasting Notes 17

April 14, 2023 - No formal notes at the time.

Method: quick double decant 1.5 hours before tasting; Cab glass

Red fruit with a bit of graphite on the finish, which wasn't especially long. Nice med+ or so acidity and a moderate amount of really nice, fine tannins. Improved over 1+ hours of drinking. This is tasty and has very good structure, but it's simple and, frankly, pretty boring. While I never had this wine young, I'm not sure 14ish years of aging really paid off a ton. If you hold it longer, I can see it perhaps getting a bit more elegant, but I'm not sure if it will gain meaningful complexity. Still, 88 - 89 points -- very good wine.

March 28, 2020 - A little thin compared to other Quivets from the same vintage. I surmise this may be stretched beyond its peak, will find out with the next bottle. I doubt this has the legs to get to the end of the Community window of 2024.

September 29, 2018 - Dark red and black fruit - blackberry, currants, and dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate with decent depth for the price point but the fruit didn't show a whole lot of character - flavors somewhat muted/lacking. In addition, the finish was a little short. Popped/poured but drank over a couple hours. Improved a little with time. Drank next to a 2015 Scarlet cab and 2012 Lewelling Wight cab and both of those wines were quite a bit better in my opinion - frankly I had a hard time drinking the Quivet next to those wines. Maybe this vintage showed better young in light of the other somewhat favorable CT notes but I was a little underwhelmed at this stage.

    December 1, 2017 - A a Rock Solid 92+.

Had not had one of Mike's Spring Mtn Quivets in some time, and this bottle was So Ready for Business! Had opened a few Myriad Springs over the last while, and though always good, this Quivet was a notch above.

PnP at a friends watching the USC / Stanford game, so no formal notes taken, but it was in a stellar place right now and with a bit of a decant think it could have hit 93. Had everything singing, fruit and oak were just in perfect harmony, the entry and mid were just delightful and with a little 'swirling' - had so much going on.

Only two Tiny Little complaints would be - 1 - the finish was medium, just a tiny bit shorter than would have hoped for and , 2nd - The bottle went Way to Fast!! Would have loved to see how this one would have developed over a few hours.

Did not see any signs of age, so think these easily have another 5-7 years, and if you got any, they seem to be in a sweet spot, so pop one and have a treat. QPR on this was amazing, would have easily guessed it to be a later year cab bottle costing double if not more . Bummed i only have one left.

Loved Mike's Spring Mtns, was so sad to see them leave the line up.
