April 20, 2022 - Beautifully understated richness is the hallmark of this wine. Effortless drinking with Italian fare. I would be drinking this one sooner rather than later less the fruit might fade.

December 10, 2021 - Clear red colour. Slight fink / barnyard notes on the nose along with a bit of earthiness. Light mouthfeel, sarsaparilla, cherry and a touch of forest floor. Very light even for a Hunter Valley shiraz. Enjoyable but probably at the end (if not after) the ideal drinking window.

September 11, 2021 - Excellent. Lacks elegance of last night's 2008 Hermitage, but a good wine nonetheless. 13.4% alc.
    Colour: dusty red berries
Bouquet: earthy blackberry fruit, Hunter river mud
Palate: as bouquet, quite luscious spicey red berry fruit, full flavoured and medium bodied, long clean finish. matured in large format French oak, but this has very gentle impact.

May 5, 2021 - Interesting nose that seems more secondary than expected for a 'very old vine hunter' 11yr old under screwcap.
smoked meat, black pepper, red earthy flavour, red cherry, some cedar and vanilla.
excellent med weight on the palate with red currants, leather.
med length finish is spicy, dark red fruit, chewy tannins.
    Still all balanced.

Thinking this could be just past its best, but with very enjoyable secondary flavours. Drink soon by ~2023

September 11, 2020 - Above average Hunter. Charcoally nose. Smooth, deep, rich with abundant plummy fruit. Good cleansing acid playing supporting role. About 5 years from apogee. My sole bottle. you can certainly taste the old vine material here, it has a certain minerality extracted from deep roots sinewing down into the earth (insert poetic licence). Medium bodied, don't over pair it with too rich a sauce/meat.
