July 10, 2014 - Sharp - even after decanting and giving it a day it never calmed down. Very bright and tart flavors - a hard one to pair with food.

October 4, 2012 - "Bright fruit and forest floor" according to the promotion. Always wondered what the forest floor tasted like. "Delightfully irreverent" as well. Agreed.

June 26, 2012 - Matthew Rorick seems to always boldly go where no CA Vintner has gone before...and I love him for it.
Small lots of varietals you usually don't find in California, or unless you are a serious geek, likely never heard of.
I swore years ago there was no Torrontes in CA...and sure enough he had made some.

Matt's wines are heady, geeky, and can require an open mind or palate. They are full of flavor, vibrancy and life.

This wine is duplicated in CT under here: https://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=1159880
and is under rated in my opinion, but this is a wine you will either love or hate. And with out a tempered palate, you may not appreciate this one.

I know little about Alvarelhão as a varietal from a Vintners perspective, so I have no idea what challenges Matt faced in making.

To The Eye: A deep purple, garnet color. Completely impenetrable to light. Murky and wonderful.
On The Nose: I could inhale this all evening. Currants, Earth, Bramble, Blackberry
In The Mouth: No numbers or vinification notes to go by, but clearly an acid lovers wine. Black fruit that is a bit tart, but softens with some air.
Decanting isn't a bad idea, but try it before and during the process so can appreciate the wine at every stage.
Blackberry, tart cherry, smoked meat, spice, pepper.

I think I bought a second bottle, if so its going to lay down for a bit as this beauty has many years of aging potential.
Next time will buy a half case.

June 1, 2012 - Effuive if slightly shrill notes of cranberry, burnt orange peel, rusted iron, blackberry paste and earth. Some initial heat that integrates with air. Kind of Campari-esque. Palate is bracingly acidic, more tart red fruit and a medium, spicy finish. Did well with grilled fare...I would not think this would do well without food.

November 22, 2011 - Decanted about 2 hours. Sour cherry and leather on the nose, with sweet smoke and spice underneath, and some stone at the end. Tart cherry and smoke on the palate, with hints of leather on the mid-palate, and a good spicy finish.
