March 27, 2016 - Even better than the last one and one of RG's best efforts. Still plenty of blackcurrant on nose and palate, with a creamy middle section which lifts to the top of the palate and a fine, dusty finish of dark cherry and brambly fruit. Well-crafted, rounded, perfectly balanced, with a little more polish and fruit this would be worth a few more points, which I suspect the 00 will achieve. Not much bricking at the edges, this should hold for another five years.
Those brave enough to defy the critics and perceived wisdom will have picked up a bargain - this is as good as the more illustrious neighbour at half the price.
Sadly, RG's prices have caught up with its improved reputation and I'm not sure that recent vintages are quite such good QPRs but the 00 and the 01 are well worth finding.

October 12, 2013 - had a bottle wit a friend. took about 1/2 hour in the decanter to open up, but when it did, it was well worth the wait.

muted nose initially, which gave way to strawberries, hint of sandalwood and (elderflower?)

margaux elegance and smoothness, non-obtrusive tannins, pleasing acidity and pretty fruit. Will last for at least another 5-8 years, easy, but drinking so well now.

August 19, 2013 - Fresh aromas of blackcurrant and dark cherries, with a touch of menthol and some sandalwood. Good fresh attack of the same, with a lifted middle section and good grip just before the finale, which is long and satisfying, with strong notes of blackberry and hints of blue berry. One of RG's better vintages.

June 2, 2013 - lovely claret, restrained red fruit and a long complex finish. Drinking well, better for an hour decant. I was surprised about the richest and lack of green in a lesser vintage.
The wine looks Garnet coloured. It smells like Black currant (cassis), and Red Currant. with a tint of Sandalwood. The body is Medium. The wine has Smooth with a just a tannin cut to make it a food wine.

February 24, 2013 - Same as my last one, this is dark, intense and not yet at its peak. Very enjoyable but I'm sure this will improve further.

(Chateau Rauzan-Gassies Margaux) From a dinner at Bel-Orme Tronquoy de Lalande with the Quié family. Slightly gamey tea-leaf fruit on the nose here, with delicate notes of violets and perfume, raspberry and cream. A nice weight on the palate, lots of pepper, supple and gently composed, but with lots of structure underneath and coming out at the finish. Plenty of flattery and flesh here, but like the 2002 Croizet-Bages tasted first it needs a little more vigour and definition.
