May 22, 2023 - Consistent with a bottle last week. Mid ruby to full garnet. Floral and room filling. Mellow, autumnal, nuanced and smooth. ****

May 18, 2023 - Gorgeous mid ruby to full garnet. Lovely nose, quite floral but more about the overall mix than any individual scent — richly autumnal in a Burgundian sense. Most unusually, Mrs G remarks on the scent emanating from the glass and reaching her across the room. Smooth, finely velvety, more autumnal spice, decay and vegetal fruit. Really quite enticing. Only the 14% translating to glycerin and a sense of weight on the finish identifies this as a not (a recent vintage) burgundy. Lovely wine, but too punchy for one sitting. This appears to have been in a plateau of loveliness for the past decade. ****

March 2, 2020 - Hawksmoor steak (Hawksmoor, Air Street): Mid to full ruby. Floral, rose-led nose with a core of sweet fruit. Very bright, floral and rounded. Well disguised heft on the palate with residual tannin and some acidity wrapped in soft petals. Doesn’t seem to have moved in five years and just as lovely as it was previously. ****

September 8, 2015 - Just as good as I remember it! Light colour belies the depth - utterly fragrant though. If Carlsberg made GBP20 barbaresco...

December 4, 2014 - Work wine tasting - Triplets: Consistent with previous bottles. Full, and smoother than the other two nebs alongside. Floral and bright with good lift. Dense velvet on the attack and through the mid palate. Young but very approachable. ****

June 6, 2014 - Glorious nose, very floral and rose dominated, no tar, but a very fragrant, sweet, caramel-tinged mellow nose. Similar on the attack, before passing in to a mid-palate that's more about structure — good acidity and a fine spine of tannin — without losing the impact of the nose. Lovely stuff. Young, but very drinkable with food and afterwards. **(**)

April 7, 2013 - Just too good - this seems to be about half our drinking at the moment...about the only wine (apart from some of the Ridge wines) that Mrs M and I are equally passionate about. Aromatic - lots of lovely nebillosity going on, tannins are there but not overwhelming, almost sweet finish, has some of the deliciousness I associate with the Jouan wines of burgundy which make them dangerously drinkable.

this is the only wine - possibly with the exception of the ridge reds - that both mrs m and i get similarly excited about.

December 15, 2012 - Ah yes - terribly nice. Was worried that it would be too brutal compared to the dangerously delicious 06 - fears were unfounded. Could doubtless do with a few more years in the cellar but lovely, if a touch punchy right now.
