Community Tasting Notes 7

January 17, 2023 - Deep dense red. Nose is surprisingly 'funky' ATM. There is spice, pepper, italian herb, wood and some alcohol and it's sweet.
There is a definite umami, meaty aspect to the nose, that I will see if it blows off or develops (I don't think it is TCA). Palate is full and rounded, smooth, balanced at this stage, though not particularly long or complex. There is roundness to the palate. At 14 yo, it could be in a developmental phase. This wine was not cheap and on this occasion did not show at it's best. The 'funkiness' has been picked up in other comments. Bad bottle? Could be.

October 1, 2021 - This wine became very scrumptious after 4 hours of decanting where it revealed so much more. But before this it was slightly reductive, closed and quite savoury with minimal fruit. In fact, I suspect the wine was going through a closed phase.

Drink in 7+ years where I suspect it will be an excellent wine.

January 26, 2020 - Initially cassis, pencil shavings, could have been Bordeaux, following several hours open more of a Gevrey meatiness, concentrated and intense, though not particularly complex. Still quite young.

September 26, 2019 - Cellared since release at 14 degrees, popped and poured, very youthfully reticent, still very tannic, I’d say wait another 10 years....

September 21, 2013 - Slightly funky nose. Effortless power. Not overworked. Medium-full body. Lots of nice fruit plus nice oak spice. Big Barossa shiraz for the 21st Century. Will become more interesting in time.
