October 6, 2021 - Very surprised at the quality at eleven years old. Fruit is lively with no signs of pruning.

May 23, 2021 - Many zin producers by 2010 had given up making earthy, briary, balanced bottles relying on acid for aging rather than on overly extracted fruit and hammerhead tannins. Not Fred. This is just coming into its own, and is as pretty, elegant, and complex as any 12 year old zinfandel I’ve had. Lighter body, but lots of sweet red cherry juice robed in a peppery, cough syrup , iodine , black pepper and mint wafer, Stored in cellar since release, popped and poured. it improved over an hour. Best slightly chilled, an easy 10 years of great drinking to come, perfect with grilled steak, salmon or chicken, simply spiced with garlic, dill, mint, etc.

April 5, 2019 - Quite nice at present with great fruit and balancing acidity. Drink or hold for a couple of years.

July 28, 2016 - Scherrer Zins are my favorite Zins. A touch candied on the nose, the palate is brambly, with cherry, espresso, high acid. A definite old world feel to it. Sorry to say goodbye to this vintage - my last of 5 bottles.

March 24, 2016 - On the lighter side of zin but doesn't lack any zin character including a bit of bramble and spice that made it really enjoyable. Nice food wine but think it would struggle a bit as a porch sipper, no harm no foul on that point!

August 29, 2015 - This one is really drinking well now, bright with just the right amount of fruit and spice. A very nice zin to go after if you don't want to chew you zin!

December 23, 2014 - A bit prunish upon first opening but really soften in the glass. Nice depth and smooth tannins. Quite enjoyable.

August 10, 2014 - Purple center with violet rim. Fabulous nose of raspberry, bramble, earth, and spice. The youthful palate is just lovely with peach, raspberry, black cherry, and tobacco. There is great structural balance with the acidity matching the fruit and the rounded tannins providing a silky mouthfeel for this medium-bodied wine. The finish is long with raspberry and a touch of spice. Overall, this is another perfectly balanced wine from Scherrer with red fruit, balanced acidity, and fully integrated tannins.

May 23, 2014 - I always fall back on Scherrer after a stressful day. Another soothing bottle. Acidity is way up there, but there is a good amount of fruit and just the right amount of earthiness. Drinking it without food and enjoying it, but will save some for the lamb shank that is heating up, and I suspect the wine will be a very nice match to it.
