January 30, 2014 - Beautiful purple color for a Pinot. Lots of black cherry fruit and some Pinot barnyard funkiness. Had a sweet oak finish that lost out after the bottle was open for an hour--too bad, it was nice. Still, I quite like this.

4/6/2014 I commented more about red fruit this time than black. Otherwise I wrote pretty much the same thing. Definitely a pop-and-pour wine and not something that's better the next day.

5/29/2015 Back to my black fruit and funkiness observations. While I like the wine, I did comment about it being as much Syrah as Pinot.

July 4, 2013 - Ripe black cherry, lush, silky, with some SLH Pinot funk. Slight effervescence and a little noticeable heat detracts from the wine. I put the remaining half a bottle in the refrigerator under cork to see if a day of air will help. Day 2: much better. Effervescence is gone and the heat is not noticeable. Darker fruits, soft and silky, a little cola.

March 10, 2013 - Beautiful red cherry fruit, great pinot expression. I love this wine for the price.

December 30, 2012 - Always a fan of August West: rich red fruit, great SLH characteristics.

(August West Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands) Dark cherry red color; intense, ripe raspberry, black cherry nose; very tasty, rich, ripe cherry, raspberry syrup palate; needs 1-2 years; medium-plus finish (90% Rosella's, 10% Garys')
