January 20, 2023 - Hmmm... am affraid might have waited a bit too long here. 7 years since my last and stellar bottle, opened this pnp. Transparent garnet with a little bricking towards the rim. This is still very clean and clear with no sign of oxidization but the fruit and also the aromatics seem to have faded, while the dusty tannins are still alive and kicking and there is plenty of acidity. There are also some tertiary notes now. Hope this gains weight and fruit with more air in the open bottle, but right now this seems very much like a wine that will dry out.
1990 was a hot vintage and perhaps after all these years of beautiful drinking, we will pay the price now.

October 22, 2022 - Académie des Cinquante 66th Annual Dinner (Zwanenbroedershuis, Den Bosch, NL): Double Magnum. This format never came onto the market - a very special gift from the Dutch importer of Isole e Olena. Deep and spicy, rich red fruit, fruitcake, fresh, firm skin tannins, very lively for its age, relatively light body, good resonance and length.

August 2, 2020 - From magnum, clear bright purple garnet in the glass. This had probably the finest nose I’ve ever come across. Wild raspberry, wood smoke, Kirschwasser and old polished leather perfectly working together in an incredible aroma. Youthful, rather drying palate of red cherry and green plum, rolling towards balsamic glaze on the back of the tongue. >1min finish of star anise, tobacco, tar and Sichuan pepper. Complex and elegant, and a wonderful nose but perhaps just a touch too austere for me on the palate. Still marvellous. 92-93

January 28, 2018 - Stank a bit when I poured the first glass, but that passed after an hours breathing. Lovely light fruit on the palate, and a drinking experience you can only get from an old wine.

August 31, 2017 - A private tasting (at home): Magnum. Very classical, cedary, claret-like style, firm tannins, restrained but not austere, fully mature but energetic after 27 years, black tea finish, good length. No end in sight in this format (still fresh after two days in the open bottle), but there is no reason to wait either.
