January 26, 2021 - Ponsot Vertical 02, 05, 10: Wine 4, 2010 (my #2, groups #3)
Deep cranberry and red cherry fruit tinged with gingerbread and an earthy element on the nose. Another lovely texture, perfectly ripe, medium full palate, subtle gentle tannins more closed than wine 3. Lots of energy and a sorbet like quality to the fruit. More structure than wine 3, and maybe a slight bitter element on the finish.
December 12, 2020 - 2 hours of air then an hour in the decanter
Engrossing nose that runs the rainbow of fruits including dark ripe and scintillating red, blue and black fruits, flowery earthy and spicy notes. Powerful concentrated body which has a youthful verve, firm but young backbone with zippy acidity and fruit flavors and attractive tannins that somewhat camouflage a blossoming gorgeous and ready to explode wine. Finish is sweet and balanced. Ridiculous already but will get even better with time
September 25, 2020 - SLDS - PR GC: Stems, with lots of raspberry, redcurrant and violets on the nose. Sumptuous and full palate, there is a swath of red fruit with so much depth and texture sitting there to give it interest. Really spectacular wine that just kept getting better in the glass.
January 21, 2020 - Took a small pour before bringing this to dinner and knew we were in for a treat. Aromatically expressive, showing deep dark fruit with complex spices and good freshness. In the mouth, very much the same, the wine has a regal, classy pinosity to it, the style really highlighting the fruit, pushing the envelope with its size and ripeness. At the same time, it’s freshness is up to the task, while sporting a fine satiny, sinewy texture. The fruit is kaleidoscopic in nature with its complex impressions, from dark red, blue, black, with a dark plum top note. On the back palate, it shows its underlying structure, coating the mouth with a pulsating feel, and a dust up of fine tannin and astringency. Top wine that brings the big Burgundy energy.
Good to know going in that mostly older barrels were used for this wine, between 5-30 years old, so oak spice can be largely subtracted from the big spices and tannin you do get here. And yes, we were drinking this young, but my experiences with 2010 reds over the last year or so have been largely positive so I decided to gamble and try one of these. I’d say this acted age appropriate for the vintage, and consistent with my experience, absolutely young, but also expressive, and beyond it’s closed phase, with a good amount of cellar potential remaining.
November 9, 2019 - Ponsot Clos de la Roche: A great showing, very enjoyable. A real beauty. Like many 2010's this can be drunk now with pleasure, but will likely be even better with age. A wine worth seeking out.
October 29, 2017 - Decanted for four hours prior to drinking.
Gorgeous blend of cranberry and cherry fruit with a bit of earth.
Balance was excellent. Fairly weightless in the mouth yet delivered lots of flavor.
Will hold for at least another 5 years.
May 25, 2017 - Fabulously ripe and floral with a great cut of fragrant and spicy cherry fruit. Quite taut but not shut down and shows a great mineral crunch complexity on the finish which is tangy and long. Obviously needs time and definitely a great vintage for this wine. 95+

November 25, 2013 - Amazingly fragrant: crushed flowers, strawberry jam. Tight on the palate, really concentrated but restrained. Great potential here and needs time.
