April 14, 2020 - Hmmm, not sure why but this one was average. Past couple have been excellent. This was a quaffer

September 8, 2019 - Drinking beautifully. Smooth but fruity. Amazing nose. Let this one breath for a few hours in the decanter and it seems like it paid dividends. A level above the last couple I've had.

April 27, 2019 - An old Tahbilk shiraz that has had a hard life in three different cellars. It still has a classic Tahbilk character but the fruit has really dropped off leaving the alcohol and acid too prominent with a bit of sappy oak and tannin on the finish. Under screwcap with no oxidisation at all it really shows how ripe shiraz 'ages'.

October 20, 2018 - Breathed for 2 hours. Plum and blackberry fruit nicely balanced with some tannin's.

November 14, 2016 - {screwcap, 14.5%} I thought this quite rich and modern for Tahbilk, with mulberry/blueberry fruit, not much oak, loose-knit but grainy medium tannins, medium weight and not terribly much acid. Would have benefited from less alcohol I think, although you wouldn't call it hot or even warm. It just seems to have had the freshness knocked off it a bit. Seems like it will easily age another decade or so; perhaps not exactly develop beautifully. I think lots of specials and higher-priced cuvees are chipping away at the inherent quality of the base label shiraz, which might be why it's maintained its price for so long. An OK wine, no more.
