May 19, 2008 - This is a new bottling for Argyle which takes it name from Argyle's viticulturist Allen Holstein and his Holstein Vineyard, from which the grapes for this wine are sourced. "Cowhouse" seems like a pretty silly name but fortunately the wine doesn't smell like a cow house. What this does smell like is crushed raspberries and cherries with notes of chocolate and a bit of tobacco. When first opened, the wine was pretty tight and it took a while to unwind but after a couple of hours you end up with a big, full bodied wine with a very smooth and silky texture. This could easily be mistaken for a good pinot from down in the Santa Barbara area. Excellent wine. Only 104 cases produced.

February 28, 2008 - Wow what a pinot, the cowhouse has a light nose of blackberry and chocolate with a touch of tobacco; The taste is crisp, complex and immediate feedback of dryness and fruit; The finish lasts and is clean and another fruit all together; This is my top Oregon pinot for 2008 so far, 97 out of 100 for me
I’ll be judging all the others by this one for a while.
