August 7, 2013 - Finally a cure for gastric issues. This wine is all prune. Starts with a ruby red, with a faint neon pink halo at the rim. Then straight into huge nose ful of prune, green figs, and raisins. It opens up into some complexity with green and black pepper, jalapeno and compost heap. Dry and low acidity with a medium finish and medium alcohol. Nice Malbec.

August 19, 2012 - Not much in the nose...fruit, but nondescript, however it is a well balanced flavor. Slightly warm and highly pleasant. Almost sour cherry in flavor. Nicely balanced. Enjoyable

May 24, 2012 - On the menu tonight was bison steak and so I needed something to stand up to that smoky meat flavour ... out came this bottle of Kaiken - I have been a fan of these wines since they arrived on our shores (Ontario) and have put a few away to see how they age, both from the regular and the ultra line. This one is some 4 years old and still drinking beautifully. Aromas of blackberry, black raspberry, cassis, cherry and hints of kirsch (which is where the alcohol comes into play). The taste is also quite lovely with cherry, blackberry, mocha, raspberry liqueur along with spice and peppery notes - but there don't seem to be many of those. All-in-all a great BBQ wine with little to get in the way of that big fruitiness.

January 6, 2012 - Dark garnet color and pretty good clarity. NOSE: Earth, pine, ripe red fruits and a bit of mustiness. PALATE: yields a red fruit/cassis-like character punctuated by more acidity than I would have expected. Good QPR and a great drinker with meat but lacks definition to put it into the upper 80s or 90s

December 7, 2011 - Lots of earth and pine on nose along with some ripe, red fruit and fall spices. Dark plum and berry flavors accented with prickly acid, a little vanilla. Moderate powdery tannins and a hint of bitter orange peel on the finish.
