April 20, 2020 - This is FANTASTIC. Drinking beautifully now. Integrated tannins still have plenty of grip. Inky fruit core. Just delish.
May 3, 2018 - Great new world Syrah, still in great condition. Nose of blue fruit and wood and spice. On the palate, good acid, some fruit, strong but balanced sweet oak presence. Maybe the fruit has ebbed some in the past 4 years (just judging from my last tasting note), but the wine does not suffer for it. This is doing very well and I imagine it will continue to evolve positively. Maybe I'll try my next bottle in another 2 years.
Originally rated as a 92. I drank 2 glasses and put it in the fridge for 2 days , left out to cellar temp and drank again. Still just as delicious. This is a living wine.
August 14, 2016 - Once again, the Big Boy didn't disappoint. Probably hitting its peak or possibly on the back side, but not in a bad way. It was wonderful upon opening, typical Syrah - brooding dark fruits with some meat and smoke, but without big alcohol. Only reason not ranking higher, it began to get a bit flabby on the final glass. Drink up!
July 30, 2016 - I feel this wine is past its best. Not much freshness left. If you have any left I would drink sooner than later.
August 16, 2015 - this is a big fruit Syrah with a big spicy kick extending into the long finish. Oak and tannins are in the background. No rough edges. This might become more complex with more age and I would rate it higher.
April 13, 2015 - still really dam good. I agree with note below, super ripe but not cooked. No better way to put it. Has def a lot of oak but lots of black olive notes which keeps things interesting. Still firm and tannic.. wont touch another for 3-5 years.. even though it was guzzled without a problem :)
July 8, 2014 - Nice dark fruits; currants, Blackberries along with the earthy goodness I have come to expect from Sonoma Syrah's. Not over the top or overly fruity, nice balance. WOTN! Glad I have one more bottle.
February 15, 2014 - Big juicy, blueberry & other berry tastes with a long finish. Well balanced & consistent tastes throughout the bottle.
January 18, 2014 - Big fruit, ripe but not cooked, balanced by good acid, and just the right amount of toasted oak. From the nose you might assume it's a punisher, but somehow it manages to be medium-bodied. Drinking well now.
August 14, 2012 - deep ,almost black in color , good texture , good balance
