December 26, 2019 - My way more educated wine geek friend, John Shultis found this mispriced at the Vancouver international wine festival store in 2010.
Nose: Cool salt mist, leafy menthol.
Palate: Initial attack of mint, eucalyptus.and juicy green tea. Middle of dark coffee, bitter chocolate and spicy white pepper.
Finish: Long saline, slightly briny ending.
Conclusion: This was a tannic monster in earlier tasting, fortunately 95% resolved now making an enjoyable wine. Only a slight tickle on the upper inner lip. I think I would be able to pull a Coonawarra cab out of a lineup. The St Hugo is a good typical example. The last and most enjoyable of six.

May 4, 2019 - Deep burgundy colour. Aroma of cigar box, resine, oak, blackberry, cloves and pepper. Still a fresh fruity flavour, blackberry, raspberry, blackcurrant. Cardamon, dried herbs, white pepper and cocoa powder. Tannin is powdery and smooth. Acidity is fresh, medium plus body, very long finish. Not near its peak, many years ahead. Still fresh, smooth and a hint of sweetness. A complex character driven wine. At least 5 years ahead of it

September 28, 2018 - Brilliant purple red colour. Strong aroma of oak, spice, pepper, dark fruits, ash. Plum, blackberry, dark chocolate, greenery, aniseed. Dusty chocolaty tannin. Fresh acidity. Full body, long finish. Still young, beautiful wine. Requires decanting but interesting at first taste. Would be best with a heavy steak.
