September 23, 2018 - Enjoyable Bordeaux typical Saint Julien with some violets, black cherries, cedar, leather. Medium body, round and some length to it. Drink now

March 13, 2018 - Perfect cork from a 54-degree cellar. A very dark ruby cloak, this 19-year old Saint-Julien wine had slightly bricked edges. The nose featured black cherry, pencil lead, forest floor, tobacco, and tertiary characteristics of red licorice and a very slight maple syrup note. Medium bodied, with very good intensity and concentration, but literally weightless on the palate like excellent Bordeaux can be, tannins largely resolved. The persistent finish features tobacco and graphite nuances. This was a superb pairing with medium rare boneless NY strip steaks. Probably at or just very slight past peak at the moment. Very happy with this auction purchase on this evening.

September 10, 2016 - Served this double blind to relatives to compare against a 1999 BV Georges de Latour to see Bordeaux vs Napa style. This wine really screams Bordeaux with it's elegant sophistication. The nose has so much going on, earth, a little brett, ripe cherry and other red fruit, cigar, and oak. The stinky cedar really screams St. Julien. It's super smooth on the palate with more of the cigar, red fruit, and oak. I like how the 1999s have a simultaneous combination of nice fruit integrated with secondary notes. Based on this, my wife accurately guessed which of the two wines was the Bordeaux. I've trained her well!

Buy this wine to believe it, it's a superb value. The last reviewer had it right. I will be looking into more Saint Pierre going forward.

May 3, 2015 - i mainly try to review only wines i like or that stand out (i taste and drink far too many wines to ever try to review them all!)
i have had this wine several times in the last few months and it has always been superb.
    subtle, gentle and lovely.
i was shocked to see Parker from a 2002 review gave it an 87?
    wtf?
sorry Robert, you missed out on this wonderful supple presentation.
maybe in its youth it was not showing well, however this year it is drinking wonderfully and I love it.

(Chateau Saint-Pierre St Julien) Beautiful perfumed violets on the nose. Full, sweet and textured on the palate. Moderate acidity. There are some firm tannins on the palate, although I think this will drink relatively early. Needs three to four years.
