March 26, 2022 - It’s been a few years since I last had this wine. A great vintage from arguably Meursault’s best vineyard made by a traditional, artisan producer who usually does not usually mess it up. With 12 years in the cellar, and no sign of premox, the Gaunoux is à point, in the perfect spot for drinking now. Drunk from Zalto Denk'Art Burgundy glass over two evenings, although it had deteriorated a little on the second evening. Deep, bright gold, showing some age. A lovely bouquet of grapefruit zest, lemon Turkish delight, mixed baking spices, dried herbs, gravelly minerals, pineapple, almond paste and jasmine florals. Some oxidised, caramel notes, appropriate for a Chardonnay of this age. In the mouth, evolved, with a touch of chicorée-café. Grapefruit, preserved pineapple and ginger, nectarine and pear. Bright, direct acidity, but with (still) the fruit to match. No noticeable oak artefact. A granite mineral backbone through to the long, dry finish. To drink in the next few years. 94+.

October 24, 2020 - Last of 3 btls. Had a badly premoxed 2nd blt in July after a youthful but excellent first btl in 2017. Tonight, PnP & slow ox 2 hours prior to dinner. Served in Riedel Montrachet glasses. Med gold correct color at age 10+. Clean, ultra fresh citrus, mineral and saline aromas. Dense minerality is the centerpiece flavor buttressed by refreshing acidity along with an array of citrus, green stone fruit, pineapple, butter and spice. This has really picked up elegance and finesse since my first btl. Great with crab legs tonight. 13.5% alc. This can be an outstanding value at $80 like tonight except, when you hit a random premox blt like we hit just 4 months ago in July. I'd love to grab more of these from this producer, if, they switch from standard corks to the newer diam composite corks that seem to work so well for other producers previously plagued by random pre-mox. Loved this btl tonight! 94pts+

May 22, 2020 - Writing this note months later, but it opened beautifully and made a big impression on me. My first from this maker. A friend reported a premoxed Genevrieres in July.

January 17, 2020 - During a Paulee dinner, so only brief impressions. Fresh, grassy on the light and simple side.

January 11, 2020 - Came out of the bottle a little reticent but by the end of 90 mins showed some more dimensionality. Light weight and medium acidity. Good tasting wine.

December 1, 2019 - Wines with Wayne (Auckland, NZ): A small pour (and brief note) but a wine I know very well. A big upgrade on the Darnat. A very good 1er white Burg from an excellent site and year. Colour quite deep gold, compared with the Damat. Floral, lemon citrus and piercingly mineral on the nose. Clean, fresh and lemony to drink. Tensile, mineral spine yet not lacking in rich, ripe orchard fruit. Excellent.

December 31, 2018 - Light gold color. Refreshing lemon notes with mineral overtones. Still a touch of wood noted on the mid palate, well integrated, good viscosity. Fruit and mineral notes on the long finish. Drink now to 3 years.
