August 23, 2014 - Top Tasters: Blind: Medium pale ruby (but with slight dark core, slight pale purple--not quite Pinot ruby, and slightly darker than pinot); Juicy berry fruit, blackberry, black cherry and red cherry and cherry pit, slight savory herbs, a hint of tobacco/coffee or tree bark or something, but really quite fresh. Medium plus drying tannins, med.+ to high acidity. Not screaming, but there. I guessed low level, lean year bordeaux b/c of the tobacco/earthy aspect. Then went to an earthy, higher tannin Burg. Sometimes you suck at this. Gotta remember Chianti doesn't have to be clearly "garnet", and pay attention to acid levels!

April 19, 2014 - Good traditional Chianti. Nice fruit and terroir, not hidden by oak and too heavy extraction. I wish more producers in Tuscany had the confidence to make this style of wine instead of falling in to the trap of over extracting and too much new oak.

October 27, 2013 - There are some nice elements of pine, "tar and roses", bitter chocolate, balanced acidity.. But I found a chemical chlorinated note I couldn't get over... Not a fan.

June 11, 2013 - Popped and poured. No decanting.

A vivid nose with floral and cherry notes. On the pallet cherry, black currant and toast, with a moderate finish of chocolate.

Brightly acidic with very soft tannins. Drink now.

May 26, 2013 - On the nose dark cherry, some burnt wood, black tea, rosehip and a feeling of walking in a warm pine forest. Also some spice and dried herbs. On the palate generous, classic Sangiovese fruit with sour cherrys, lingonberries and some more rosehips. Lively acid and a fresh, stony minerality. Good grip on the tannins but still goes down smoothly with pasta al pomodore. Classic, young chianti!

December 5, 2012 - Gave it a whirl in the decanter before pouring in burgundy glasses. Nicely ripe and pure sangiovese nose with black tea, cherry pits, sour cherries, corinths, gravel dust, sagebrush, bitter orange and cloves. Tastewise there's a friendly balance with generous fruit - lots of sour cherries and a few raspberries - smooth grip, refreshing minerality and no disturbing heat (13,5%) Classic chianti in a style that must appeal to all friends of the real thing. Even better than expected in the warm vintage. Gotta have more!

October 12, 2011 - Ripe sweet cherries and fruit cake and dusty nose. Fresh red fruits, raspberries, cherries, soft and gentle on the palate. Some greens on the mid and finish. Enjoyable.
