September 1, 2019 - A (delightful) contrast to the bottle from my original tasting note.
The first of my own bottles. Brown-tinged. Truffly, burnt caramel nose. Dense and rich dark hedge-fruit with earth, strap and charred oak elements and enough core acidity for perfect balance. Gunflint nuances. Very long finish. The nearest in style to the (noted) '84 without the port-like elements of that unique vintage. Superb indeed.
No rush. Should easily do another decade.

June 29, 2019 - Wine had seeped a couple of ounces in my wine cabinet. I am not sure why. Fearfully, I opened it and was pleased that it was still alive. Earthy with clean fruit underlying. Lots of sediment decanted away.

September 30, 2018 - Last of the Maine bottles. With Ben/Suz.

Muddy copper garnet. Date-tamari driven nose with dried orange spices, savory blackberry, beautiful integration. Hint of floral furry Brett, hint of sweet balsamic and sundries tomato. Just so good. In a fantastic place. Fully resolved tannins. Persistent.

May 26, 2018 - Still very much alive and with a lot more fruit (dried fruit, dates) and weight than I expected. Classic resin notes, with cleansing acidity. Lovely to drink. I'm sure will last and evolve for many years yet.

April 12, 2018 - Musar tasting at Roberson Wine.
Vegetal, truffly nose packed with bramble fruit and smoke. Earthy elements and signature gunflint traits. Bordeaux-like (with an alcohol boost (14%)). Very refined and undoubtedly the star of the show. Long dry finish.
Fully ready but should easily make 35yrs from vintage with this structure. Excellent 93+. Bought 6 bottles.

ps Thank you to Ch Musar for obtaining 9 bottles of the mythical 1984 (not in the tasting) for my cellar. I look forward to reporting on it in due course...

(Chateau Musar) Trademark Musar volatile acidity. It seems integrated, and there are good, meaty fruit aromas alongside it. Big and full bodied, like a mature Rhône, packed with so much spicy fruit, and a touch of Spanish leather. Full but integrated tannins. Good weight, fruit persisting through to the length. Undoubtedly still on the way up, although drinking fine just now. A second bottle tasted a few months later had much more prominent volatile acidity. Leathery black and red berry fruit on the nose, with an earthy background. Full bodied and richly textured, it has lots of fruit on the palate, with integrated tannins and strong acidity. More leathery notes, but not at all earthy, with a peppery edge. It has a wonderful length. This is a top Musar.
