October 3, 2020 - #1 of 12 There is no better way to finish a lovely wine dinner than a glass of Yquem. This was no exception. The 1990 in half bottles is in a great place for current drinking. I think that Dream’s 8/22/20 TN says it well, both on a stand alone basis and as the last of the 88/89/90 trio...

This was the finisher for a fantastic wine dinner featuring ..1990 Leroy’s .. Vosne Romanee Beaux Monts, Nuits Saint George Les Boudots, Pommard Les Vignots and Savigny Les Beaune Les Narbatons

October 1, 2020 - Blind tasted. Wasn't difficult to guess an old Sauternes with the reddish yellow color, saffron notes and toasty orange peel bitterness. If you paid big bucks for yours I can understand why you would want to wax lyrical on this but to a simple blind taster it is as tasty as any other quality old Sauternes and not very lengthy on the palate. I was not the only one present who remarked that it is in its twilight...
Thanks for this generous offering GG!!

September 1, 2020 - From the list at Anarki, this was in fine form - and more than a bit better than the 89 tasted just two days before. This is much richer, deeper, more complete, honey galore her, citrus, virant stuff, goes on and on - I'll restain from counting the aftertaste in seconds, but this is Grand Vin indeed.

August 30, 2020 - Excellent bottle, bright, fresh, clean, and sharp upfront with dense and deeply rich apricot and honey flavours throughout. Still in secondary fruit country as opposed to tertiary notes. Imagine good bottles of this will go on forever.

August 24, 2020 - Bordeaux 1990 horizontal tasting (Fribourg): 1990 Bordeaux horizontal hosted by a private collector. 30 years down the road, the vintage comes across as bold and muscular, youthful and in general not yet open for business or at times closed. Highlighs included Figeac, Haut-Brion, Mouton, Calon Ségur – and to my surprise – Marquis de Terme. See tasting story for more take-aways and the complete line-up.

    Tasting note
Only a very brief comment. Full-bodied, concentrated and built for endless aging. Sweet melon, honey, bee wax, candid fruit the main aromas. Less spicy and no saffron as in more recent vintages. Clearly a very good Sweet wine, but not my favorite vintage from this estate.

(Y'quem) The '90 was truly thrilling wine with pefectly balance between botrytis and acidity. Wonderful texture and explosive inner mouth aromas. Stunning finish and great delineation.

(Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes) A hot, dry vintage. Four tries. A little pale compared to the other older vintages, a good sign, perhaps? But there is obvious volatile acidity on the nose, with delicate ripe white fruits behind it. This is surprising in view of the vintage, although with time the nose builds intensity to show orange and apricot notes. Another bottle assessed, however, was much cleaner with no VA. Full, rich, balanced, slightly oily palate. Peaches and apricots. Lovely, with elegance alongside the richness. This is very stylish once you get past the volatility, and there is potential here too. I suspect it would cellar for decades.
