Community Tasting Notes 3

November 11, 2020 - Past it's best, still quite deep and rich. A few tertiary notes, but largely lifeless. No fruit at all, mearest whisper of tannin on a fairly long finish.

April 26, 2012 - Drank without decanting and it was very pleasant. The wife thought it was a good drinking wine to have without food and approved of more for future purchases. We both got a dose of berries and cherries.

February 15, 2012 - An earthy, spicy, Rhône red with an intense red-purple color and well formed legs. Quite dry, medium-full-bodied with balanced acidity and chewy phenolics. Possesses an intense and heady nose of blackberry, embellished with white pepper, cocoa and toast. Ample Garrigue with lots of black and some red fruit. Very dusty (as if it had some Carignan in the blend. Rustic but in a good way.) It carries its 15 percent alcohol effortlessly. This wine is not for drinkers who cannot get beyond sweet fruited, oaky reds. Would pair well with a steak in a green peppercorn sauce or with venison.

A blend of 75% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault.

    Personal Background Notes

Rasteau’s dry red wines, which were previously sold as Côtes du Rhône Villages Rasteau, were promoted to full appellation status and are now sold as Rasteau. This change has been retrospectively applied to wines from the 2009 vintage. Previously one of the Côtes-du-Rhône villages, Rasteau became an appellation in its own right in 2009, owing to the standout quality of its wines. This domaine has 13ha of mature vines in Rasteau on plots of typical clay soils with an abundance of heat-retaining pebbles. In addition, the domaine also covers 15 ha. in Gigondas, 16 ha. in Sablet, 13 ha. in Lirac and 3 ha. in Seguret.

Jean-Pierre and Claude Roux are cousins, who have inherited the property, which has been in possession of the family for some generations.

Notre Dame is the French name of "Our Mother"/Virgin Mary". Notre Dame des Pallières is is the name of a lieu-dit near the small river Trignon - the border between Sablet and Gigondas. The name comes from a place here, where people trying to avoid the plaigue in the Middle Age could find rest.
