December 18, 2015 - Holiday Lunch including Vogue Musigny, Guigal La Landonne, and an Incredible Arnoux Suchots (Charlie Palmer Steak): This was a classic mature Barbaresco and serves as a reminder of why we buy and cellar wine. The wine was delicate and light on the palate while delivering complex flavors or rose water, earth and raspberry like fruit. The wine still delivered precision after 30 years but was satisfying in the way that only a properly aged wine can be.

October 27, 2009 - What a very pleasant surprise for a Tuesday night. There is a story, or lack of story, with this wine, which made it more enjoyable. This had been sitting in my father's and my office for the last 16 years. My father passed away 4 years ago and this was lost and forgotten. It was sitting in a corner next to where we keep our paper reams for our computers and copy machines. There is about 9 bottles that has just been ignored for basically 16 years. It wasn't in prime storage conditions. Our office is about 70 degrees. I happened to walk by the paper storage corner and grabbed a bottle because I knew we were having leftovers tonight - leftover veal cutlets and agnolotti - and I thought an old Barbaresco would be perfect.

I was half expecting this bottle to be cooked. I also have never heard of Roagna, so I had no idea what to expect. The wine turned out to be pretty wonderful.

Red cherry, dark cherry, dried herbs, cured meats, violets, notes of chocolate, earth, tinge of tar...lots going on in this wine... all in a light-medium weight wine that is smooth, harmonious and elegant. I could keep smelling and drinking this all night if I didn't have a doctors appointment a day from now. I had a 1990 Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva a couple of nights ago, and honestly this wine isn't so far out of the Giacosa's class. I really enjoyed it and am glad there are 8 bottles left in the office.
