January 7, 2014 - After visiting Cooper Spring Break 2013 I bought a bottle of the Merlot because (imagine this) we liked the taste of it. Most importantly is that we like many of the different varietals/grapes but found that this Merlot was the most reasonably priced of the one that we enjoyed. 10 months later we had an awesome Caprese Chicken dish and I picked this one from our cellar. Not sure if the experts agree on the pairing but both were spectacular.

If you are in Washington I guarantee that you will enjoy visiting Cooper (especially if you have a similarly warped sense of humor). We had such a good time I remember the Sommelier spraying my shirt to erase the wine stain. We normally prefer big reds and avoid both Merlot and Pinot Noir - but this Merlot is different. This is one of the 10-15% of the Merlots produced that we really enjoy.

Why? What characteristics you ask? Smells great, taste great, not too much tannins but yes some dryness, just enough to make it complex where it is worth the visit and worth the $40. (I enjoy www.reversewinesnob.com).

Next time in Washington, we will visit and again purchase - hopefully more than 1 bottle.

July 11, 2013 - Thought this was nice. Red Mountain terroir comes through nicely, oak treatment is good, taste profile is pleasant. The wine came off a little flat and mostly one-dimensional however. 89-90.

April 23, 2013 - A very smooth bottle with nice acidity and tannins. Has some nice berry notes & spice on the palate. This is a bottle that you can sit on for awhile as it will get better with age. Enjoy it with your favorite cuts of beef, lamb, or earthy meats and veg.

March 23, 2013 - Dark plum nose. Soft, spicy with tannins lingering through hints of pepper on finish

November 17, 2012 - Yakima Valley Maiden Voyage Tasting Tour!; 11/14/2012-11/18/2012 (Yakima Valley AVA, Naches Heights, Snipes, Horse Heaven Hills, Red Mountain, Rattlesnake AVAs): Beef top notes, spice and crushed peppercorns over red fruit in the nose. Cherry, clove and dark chocolate round out the palate with a padded finish. An ideal Red Mt Merlot in my book.
