April 21, 2024 - hard to believe, but it was a little better on day 2
December 3, 2017 - Exquisite. Classic Russian River profile. Soft yet well-structured. One of our best pinots consumed this year. Regrettably, no more in the cellar.
December 4, 2013 - This opened bright, good color, bright, nice cherry fruit on the nose, vibrant on palate, soft tanins, nice finish. After being opened for about 40 minutes it turned murky/cloudy and lost it's finish. Clearly past the peak window yet a wonderful wine none-the-less.
May 6, 2013 - My very last bottle of the 2001 Rochioli East Block. All 6 that I've drank over the past 5 years have been wonderful. This last bottle was decanted for about 1 hour, than enjoyed over 3 hours. The aroma in the glass was subtle fruits and a little forest floor. Not over-powering at all. On the palette there were lots of berries and spices obvious. The remaining tannins were gentle on the taste buds. Overall this Pinot was really great. Think it would have lasted another year or 2. Wish I had more.
February 9, 2013 - Wine is gone, some mushroom and herbs but no fruit left. Its drinkable but not enjoyable.
December 22, 2011 - Rating 95 points. Found one last bottle of the 2001 Rochioli East Block Pinot hiding in the bottom row of my cellar. Enjoyed it last night with short ribs which were slow cooked over a 2 day period. Although not quite as good as the magnum I enjoyed last year in Yountville, this '01 East Block was still one of my all time favorite Pinots. About to search the cellar and see if there are any more hiding away.
May 29, 2011 - Multi-dimensional, beautifully balanced. Soft tannins, quiet, lingering fruit. Time to drink up.
January 23, 2011 - Just as good as December's bottle - opened up beautifully after an hour. Dusty and berrylicious.
December 10, 2010 - Beautiful berries and herbs. Quite subtle at first, but improved over the next hour. Loved it, and am glad I have another 3 bottles.
November 20, 2010 - Drinking beautifully at a decade old. Really graceful and elegant. Prure red fruit typical of Russian River pinot. 14.2% ABV but not over the top by any means.
