February 22, 2022 - shaping up to be a very nice wine if even a bit restrained for a PS

June 21, 2020 - My brother blinded this on me.
Very dark, saturated color that ruled out Pinot, Grenache, and many other old-world grape varieties. Nose was pretty nondescript and didn't give me any clue. Started out with really nice, silky mouthfeel. There was not as much depth or concentration as one would expect from the color and it was medium-bodied at best. Seemed a little flat and lacking a touch of acidity. At this point, I was pretty sure this was new world, but what grape variety?
Based on the flavor profile, I ruled out Cabernet and Syrah. Already ruled out Grenache and Pinot based on color. Mourvedre? No. Other Bordeaux varietal? Didn't taste Bordeaux-like at all. Something in my head said Barbera, so that's what I went with, 2015 Sierra Foothills Barbera. (My brother is from Sacramento and has blinded me on Sierra Foothills wines before, plus the acidity profile seemed to fit).
On the reveal, I was a little surprised because there was not much tannin. I don't drink much PS at all, in fact, I think the last time I had any PS was this same wine, in 2013!

September 7, 2015 - This showed a very cured meat aroma, interesting for a PS. Blueberries, red fruit, and and firm acid backbone. Needless to say, tannins are still angular. Add a piece of chocolate cake and you're in the money.

October 24, 2014 - For a younger PS, way beyond my expectations. Another great Tercero wine!

September 6, 2013 - Not decanted, consumed over 2+ hours. A polished, medium-weight PS with concentrated dark fruit alongside subtle savory notes, this was great both with burgers and on its own. Good tart acidity and tannins integrating nicely. No reason at all to rush on these. 89-90.

August 3, 2013 - Consistent with my last note - more on the bright and tart side of PS rather than the dark, some savory notes, good balance. This is a versatile PS that can complement a wide variety of meals or be enjoyed on its own.

May 5, 2013 - Tercero Dinner - Now we're all uncomfortable (FMIII in the OC): Typical PS color but it has good clarity as well. Blue and black fruit entwined with good form tannins. Medium finish.

January 7, 2013 - Tasted over two days - consistent throughout. An interesting combination of bright, tart, and savory fruit with some hearty tannins. As usual with Larry's wines, has good balancing acidity. Good now, but could use a bit more time.
