March 25, 2024 - Drink with food. It will be a better experience. I got lots of licorice scents on the nose. Earthiness / tobacco. Heavy alcohol on the nose. Taste lingers an is still brooding and strong. Tannins are soft but definitely there. Good color on the lip. Good wine all in all. An still has. A lot of life left. I left it out for about 4 hours to breathe an this is what I got. It’s a big wine still til this day

September 7, 2023 - Cellared since release...the inaugural vintage for Jones Family, Heidi Barrett winemaker and David Abreu vineyard mgr...still very youthful dark berry fruits of black cherry, currents, red plum...pretty tight and soured at first...HUGE aromas of crushed pencils and cedar sawdust...tannins not fully resolved yet, still spicy with white pepper and quite dry. Air REALLY brings this one together...integrates the sours and the sweet fruit, yet still maintains spicy tannins and youthful vigor...not very complex...some nice green olive, leather, smoked cherrywood, pipe tobacco...but MAN that dryness and white pepper spice really smacks you in the face! The 97 was more of a seamless wine when I last had it 8yrs ago...this 96 is trying to get there, but is still in need of more age(?)...but don't know if it has the fruit to do so. Still a lot of pleasure from the bottle...one of the very first culty mailing lists I got on early...plenty of fond memories!

April 25, 2020 - Still alive and well. Drank over three days from Coravin. A bit tight at first, opening, softening and improving over the three days. Not complex, but plummy with good density. Very good, no obvious defects.

January 11, 2019 - One hour decant, consumed over next four hours. Improved throughout the evening. Resolved tannins, plenty of mature fruit, silky texture. Window will probably last five more years for well stored bottles.

November 15, 2018 - Deep purple/red color. Aromas of blueberries, cassis and licorice. Ripe, fully integrated, highly extracted fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Nicely juicy and supple on the palate. Impressively fresh and fully intact at 22 years of age. A delicious but not overly complex mature California Cabernet.
