Community Tasting Notes 95

September 4, 2017 - Relatively consistent with my prior notes.

Dark red color, clear meniscus and slight change in color from rim to center. On nose, garrigue, black cherry, black raspberry, floral and only with a lot of airtime, slightly vegetal / V8. Also alcohol was noticeable on nose (the alcohol and slightly vegetal note on nose are not flaws in my opinion).

On palate, medium+ body, black cherry, glycerin, black licorice and medium acidity, medium tannins and a very long finish. 92-93+ Outstanding QPR and agree on Motz's prior note that this is a good ringer for a CDP blind tasting.

July 3, 2017 - Absolutely classic, a dark colour, a bouquet with some tea leaves and minerals, also dark fruit and showing ripeness. The wine is a lovely bit chunky, alcohol a bit obvious, solid tannins. what else do you want if you uncork a Gigondas?

May 20, 2017 - Very young but still a totally stunning wine, the 2010 Souteyrades is a pure treat. The nose reveals wonderful dark mature Grenache fruit, classy and very balanced garrigue, lovely kirsch and sun dried strawberries. The palate adds nicely to this first impression. It is balanced but needs a bit of time to integrate further. Tannins are velvety and silky, yet expressive and actually this is somwehat of a hard edge tonight. The acidity makes this wine a lovely food companion. There is enough texture and structure to have this effort age nicely for at least another decade. The length on the finish lasts around a minute or more. (score is 95+)

May 14, 2017 - A blockbuster, nearly creamy after a lot of aeration, mainly grenache style at the moment, still a bit hefty and needs some years to soften in the finish; quality time here.

March 22, 2017 - Drank over three days, from Burgundy stems. The bouquet offers layered perfume of muddled thick petal flowers, potpourri, berry compote, coco powder, pepper, herbs, molasses, fennel, shallot, smoke dried prune, dried fig, cured meats, tar, rusted iron, red loam, schist, black sand, and ores. It tastes like it smells, in mind-bending layers. Phenomenal depth, balance, and structure. Overall, it put my mind to what the same vintage Janasse Vieilles Vignes might become in time. The wine has added weight and roundness during the last two years. In a word, profound! It belongs in a double-blind flight of highly regarded $100+ Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and might come out on top!!! Try it!
