Community Tasting Notes 5

July 18, 2020 - Couldn’t wait for an initial taste after 1 1/2 hour decant. Nose shows graphite and tobacco leaf, with hints of mint and leather. Palate adds cassis and a touch of blackberry. Tannins still somewhat grippy. The perfume noted by others in 2015 isn’t noticeable. I plan to drink this with a grilled steak in a couple hours, so will see how it holds up.

edit: After a 4 hour decant, I have to say this wine was a disappointment. Did not compliment my meal.

May 8, 2015 - Medium body. Perfumed nose with a touch of spice. Dark fruit packed beneath a steely structure. Needs time, but sophisticated stuff.

May 7, 2015 - A very typical Barbaresco with elegant fragrances and a silky velvet touch on the palate. Tasted in two different times, the first bottle was better than the second but in both cases still a great wine. It worths much more than the money needed to buy it.

January 9, 2014 - No detailed notes. Had this a few weeks ago with the winemaker and really liked it. Soft, smooth, approachable, etc. It must've been decanted a lot longer than the bottle I opened today, which was drinkable but nowhere near as "ready". Also, quite a bit of white particulate floating about that I suspect was tartaric acid.

December 15, 2013 - Very herbal. Long, cool maceration. A little French oak, and a hint of something rubbery, too, or like fresh plastic...a kickball or a cheap toy, it's weird, maybe some kind of reduction. Otherwise a brilliant wine.
