March 3, 2019 - Impressive depth of flavor. Herbal nuance adds interest. Well balanced. I’m sad it appears this bottling has been discontinued.

April 14, 2014 - A few years in bottle have transformed this into a wine of striking richness. Smokey black cherry, stewed mushroom, wilted roses and blue pudding hang on a broad backbone of sweet oak. This is a brassy pinot, but having seen it evolve from a tight youngster into this, I'm interested to see where it goes in a couple of years. The obvious quality warrants a 90+ score, but the style is too ripe for my palate. Borders on cloying. Lovers of Seasmoke and wines of that ilk will be duly impressed.

March 14, 2014 - Very lush ripe new world, west coast Pinot. Full on overripe strawberry, dark cherry, plum, cola, brown spice, vanilla. While having some transparency, this is on the darker side for Pinot and shows a fair bit of extract. The nose also reveals just a touch of spice that seems indicative of some stem inclusion, maybe only 10%-25%. Palate repeats the lushness and strawberry and dark cherry. It is slightly deficient in acid and shows a bit of its 14.5% alcohol and some new oak vanilla (25% new oak) on the finish. Overall not my style (a bit too ripe, extracted and just a bit too oaky), but very polished and high quality. By day two the fruit had settled down a bit and more spice came out on the nose, but the palate is still showing sweet, lush fruit with a slight vanilla tinge on the finish.

November 18, 2013 - starts out medicinal and tight (like so many other recent Ojai pinots) with some air - 30 minutes - starting to get the tart cranberry and pomegranate I like. Vacuum sealing and drinking tomorrow. This one needs a good aeration or 5 years.
Next day.. medicinal cherry has become a vibrant cherry liquer while offering a lovely acidity. I feel waiting a day gives you the sense of how this wine will age. I wouldn't pop n pour any Ojai pinots from 2008 on. They need serious aeration to show what they really taste like. Well done.
