Community Tasting Notes 6

  • Robert Pavlovich Likes this wine:

September 6, 2020 - At once charming and also brooding, its layered and ripe dark fruit carries good acidic freshness with interesting earth and spice accents. Definitely has the weighty dark fruit, together with an assured and accessible nature of a Gevrey Grand Cru, and does sport some nice nuance to its texture and unwinding of complex flavors on the finish. There’s also what appears to be a toasty oak signature to the wine throughout, same or similar to what I recall from the 10’ Mazis Chambertin on release, and while neither brash nor particularly inspired, overall the wine comes across as a success and what I’d guess to be above expectations for most, considering the house, though I’m not sure this wine is vinified by Jadot. Good now for checking in, especially if you have the time to follow it for a while, and figures to improve over the next 3-5 years. While this has some power and a brooding nature, it doesn’t have more than half the structure of the 10’ Bonne Mares tasted last year.

May 24, 2020 - Cherry, strawberry, notes of earth and violet; lovely entry, well-structured, dense, fruitful, extended, beautiful, straightforward, and delicious

November 11, 2019 - Earthy, calm and even. It has a sweet core of jubey fruit. Balance and proportion are excellent and it is a really delicious drink.

July 12, 2019 - Smokey, jammy dark fruits - a real heavyweight and possibly backward wine. More brute than finesse but no denying this is a proper wine. I’d like to try this again in 5 years as I suspect it will balance out in time to become something very nice. 92 for now but upside potential. A very nice tipple even now but suggest it is decanted for an hour or so before tucking in

November 22, 2015 - Lovely wine; swirling it in the glass kept on unpacking and unfolding more flavors. Evident class if still nascent as a whole; a bit of the wild side of Chambertin with game notes and - you got it, griottes. The mineral and floral complexity is going to open out with more time and in 10 years, this is really going to be something.
