November 29, 2023 - Loved this. Proper Pomerol chug. Needs air and a decant. In window but I think some of the grainy tannins could integrate more over the coming years. Carmes, Trot, Pav/Fig, Pav Macq will now joined by VCC for some of my favourite 98s. All the right rounded hues. Long finish.

September 25, 2023 - 3 hrs of air - Up against a 2004 Palmer and the majority preferred the Palmer on the grounds that the finish was much more complete. I expected very different tastes from the two wines but was struck at how similar they were — the VCC was suave and medium bodied by Pomerol standards while the Palmer was juicy and bigger than I expected for an off year. This is a nice wine but I expected it to blow the Palmer away and it didn’t
Score: 94. Relative to expectations: +

September 10, 2023 - Tasted annually this never disappoints, and has moved forward in its evolvement over the last few years. I am a real Pomerol groupie, and this ticks all the boxes, and only lags slightly behind the Trotanoy and L'Evangile. The nose has lost its youthful greenness, and now is deeply aromatic with cherry, strawberry, plum and vanilla, with a touch of bell pepper starting to appear on the palate. The tannin is gradually resolving, but retains bite. It does need to smoothen out end palate and on the finish, as it signs off as a bit of a robust left banker. I am sure this will resove with time, and merit another point. A post note; time in the glass really started to address the robust end, and I feel this will move to its peak over the next couple of years.

September 1, 2023 - Long-time fan of these wines. The 98 still has a certain drying quality to the tannins. Gorgeous characteristic freshness and some on-the-nose brett character that adds to the charm of this wine. Drinking well but might be better in another 7yrs.

July 30, 2023 - I am more with PCLin's notes than Melvin's on this one. We tasted the same wine. This was for me a clear standout wine of the night with the Cheval and Clos Rougeard. Called this 95 or 98 right bank given the ripeness and the intensity of the fruit. Still quite young but has a very bright future ahead. Probably hit its peak in about 5-7 years.
