  August 19, 2012 - Who would have thought this wine needed decanting? I opened the night before and it was tight and closed. Left on the counter for a few hours, then refrigerated until the next evening. As it came up to temp, the wine opened into a nice barbera. Fruit, tannins to balance. Smoky almost, with a hint of tobacco to go with the berry mix of blue and blackberries.

  August 9, 2011 - Probably past its prime but it's still a big wine. Fruit seems to have faded and the earth/leather is more predominant. Still great mouthfeel, lots of tannins and some heat make it an excellent food wine.

  February 23, 2010 - Opened with no decant. Medium to dark color.On the nose a spectacular aroma of sour black cherry. On the palate you get a little of that sour cherry but some darker fruit flavors prevail. You get a extreme coating of the palate with some wonderful creaminess. The backend finishes with a little dark chocolate that lingers for a while. I got to tell you I was not expecting much from this wine but what a wonderful surprise it was. Really enjoyed this wine. Found this at the bottom
  of my cellar and unfortunately do not have anymore.

  December 23, 2009 - This is a BIG wine but it's also very well balanced and has some complexity. No specific notes as it accompanied a very busy dinner and I could not take the time to assess the wine. But I know I enjoyed it very much as did the dinner guests. I'll try to take better notes for my remaining bottle.... hope to get some more of this in later vintages.
