August 20, 2019 - Philly Wine Group Top French Wines Themed Dinner (The Prime Rib, Philadelphia): Slow-Oxed from the morning then decanted before dinner. Opaque dark garnet. Fragrant almost explosive nose of pencil lead/graphite, coal, vanilla cedar and forest floor. Medium- acidity and medium tannin. Rich and chewy mouth feel. Classic palate blending the earth and minerals in the nose with black cherry, blackberry and black currant. Long luxurious finish. Gorgeous wine that has probably, so far, aged better than the vintage experts might have predicted.

August 20, 2019 - For our Philadelphia wine club dinner at the Prime Rib. Opened to breathe for 6h before dinner. Huge mineral and graphite on the nose and palate. Black fruit. Velvety and classy. Outstanding with rack of lamb. For me, this tied with WOTN with the 2005 Palmer.

March 24, 2019 - Drank by a dry aged Cote du Boeuf. Very pleasant wine. 2002 is not a great vintage but this is very good. Nice Pauillac typicity. Silky smooth palate. Harmonius wine, lovely and at it's peak now.

March 8, 2019 - 1st of 48, decanted 6 hours, perfect cork and level - dark quite dense ruby, hints of purple throughout; classy, if slightly muddy nose (Parkerised?), violet, cassis, more earth notes than usual for Lafite, graphite, iron and tobacco, not pure; medium full, long, quite persistent, decent concentration and weight of fruit covering as yet unintegrated dry and, for Lafite, slightly lumpy tannins, really hasn't come together properly, bit in the style of 86 with dry and relatively ungenerous fruit, if so needs a lot of time to gain measure of harmony and purity, but being Lafite I would expect to upgrade in 5 to 10 years. F+ (18) for now...….NB just because US critics, inlcuding the then crucial RP, generally bottled out of initial tastings fearing to travel at the onset of the Gulf War II, it does not mean that 02 is a poor vintage; on basis of wines in my cellar I'd judge it between good and very good and many at the start preferred it to the purer, and arguably better balanced if less weight of materiel, 01.
