June 6, 2020 - Last bottle of this stash and last of any vintage of Puffeney's pinots, which makes me sad. Drank with a great lunch on our patio and while not the finest pinot I've ever drank, it was perfect for the occasion. Similar to my last note on 6/2/18, but this one was in fine shape, won't get any better, but wasn't tired in the least.

June 2, 2018 - I have been holding the whatever Puffeney's I had left. Had three of these left and opened one last weekend. It was tired, and didn't want to hold the last cpuple. Opened another last night and much better. Really good. Soft and muted strawberry, tart cherry, cranberry, minerals, herbs, and a nice earthy streak. Cloudy, deep pink, and lots of sediment. Still won't hold the last one much longer. Drink them if you have any.

January 16, 2013 - My first Pinot from Puffeney. Totally translucent with nose that's kind of spicy (think radish) but earthy and floral at the same time. In the mouth it tastes like a blend of cherry, pomegranate and cranberry juices. It's probably a little too acidic for most people but that's what I like about it. I'm an acid junky. It finishes very dry, like a cat's tongue. The nose is what gets me though.

December 16, 2012 - I'm with Jonathan, this is a pretty big wine for a Jura pinot. Initially kind of funky on the nose, maybe reduction, and closed on the palate but with quite a bit of structure. Didn't get any of the cranberry/bright red fruit I like about Jura reds. I kept it for two more days and it smoothed out but is still a big-boned wine. Interested to see what comes of this.

December 16, 2012 - Jura and Savoie (SF Wine Trading Company): Medium ruby. Tart, earthy reddish fruit. Medium weight; actually has more volume than the Arbois Pinots I've tasted. Faded fruit, raspy acidity, earth is reprised on the finish. I cannot warm up to this.

October 2, 2012 - Lovely bright ruby color. Intense mineral nose accented by stems/spice and bright cherry and cranberry. Tastes of the mountains and expresses clearly its terroir. Lean and angular, but with pleasant red fruit and granite flavors and a long tart cherry finish. Has the structure and mineral profile of a top cru beaujolais, and reminds me of this more than anything else. My first venture into pinot from the Jura, and a nice expression of the grape. Better after some air and a pass through the Vinturi, suggesting this would benefit from some time.

July 29, 2012 - First Pinot Noir from Puffeney I've tasted, and I found it very nice. Forward fruit on the nose and palate with a plummy texture, but nicely tart without any overripe or jammy qualities. After that initial hit of cranberry and red florals, the wine settles into a long, very intriguing, exceptionally deep and earthy finish. Quite an interesting balance between the forward fruit on entry and the high-toned, mineral finish. Has me looking forward to other Puffeney bottlings from the '10 vintage.

July 6, 2012 - No shrinking violet...and that's too bad, as I was in the mood for more of a shrinking violet Pinot Noir. This was a muscular Pinot with a tannic character that came across as an unfiltered cranberry juice on many levels. The nose reminds me of some "natural" Loire Cab Francs. This is heavy in a way. Wonder what this will grow into with a couple years age.

May 19, 2012 - Opened and poured, this wine gave an excellent showing with a wonderful combination of accessible, youthful dark fruits and earthy undertones. On the palate the wines shows balance and enough depth and concentration to keep it interesting. It gives medium length finish with soft tannins and an appropriate amount of acidity. This wine may benefit from an additional year or two of bottle.
