Community Tasting Notes 2

December 20, 2007 - I'm glad I drank this when I did. It was probably at or around its peak. A little more extracted than I remembered it, much more PN-ish. The color was unreal, about as translucent ruby as it gets. The nose was a ton of fruit, with a touch of caramel that would probably have evolved into oxidation in another 6-9 months. The palate seemed to be not quite as fresh and vibrant as it once was, and seemed a bit more serious. Dark cherry and strawberry fruit with some extraction and a weight that is new. A great, no-nonsense bottle.

October 24, 2005 - Pale salmon color with bright acidity and fresh red-berry fruit with an earthy undertone. Is that earthy quality inherent in the grape? I've seen it in one or two others (Overnoy comes to mind). These wines remind me of a hypothetical mix of Beaucastel, for the earthiness, and, maybe Fourrier or Mugnier for transparency and purity. It's an unusual combination that somehow works, esp. with a mushroom dish. Though not for the acid-shy.
