December 23, 2019 - Similar to last time, but even just a tiny bit better. It has aged very well.
December 4, 2019 - I'm a bit surprised this is only the 2nd Kilikanoon wine I have ever tried (or at least written notes on). Fruits are mellow for the region, indeed quite elegant, but remember of course this is a 10yr wine and in that context drinking well albeit at the end of its optimal drinking window. Soft prunes and a spike of heat late. Shortish finish. Drink now.
June 20, 2019 - Delicious notes of tobacco and dark chocolate.
August 24, 2018 - Abundant dark fruit upfront with sweet tobacco, nutmeg, allspice and mocha on the mid-palate, segway into some fig and black pepper on the medium+ finish. Juicy mouthfeel with toasty oak and mild, velvety tannins.
May 25, 2018 - Quite settled down since the last time I had it. Lots of garrigue, almonds, black cherries, pepper, smoke, and a sappy medium length finish.
January 2, 2017 - Improving over time but lacks the brighter fruit tones of Grenache. Still mostly plum, cocoa, prunes on the palate.
March 20, 2016 - Much more balanced than the last bottle. Loads of dark fruit with plummy, cocoa hints. Still too over extracted for my taste.
January 25, 2016 - Very good. Nice balance of fruit, spice, and oak. Very smooth.
January 23, 2016 - Nice restrained nose with oodles of black fruit and chocolate.
Very big palate. Sweetish, plummy black fruit with some cocoa richness too. Very long. Powerful stuff (14.5%), yet very good balance.
Curiously temperamental when it came to matching with food though, as any more than a hint of sweetness in a dish seemed to kill it.
January 16, 2016 - [after the fact, general impression]
Seemed OK, perhaps peaking or slightly past. Liked it.
