July 12, 2014 - This is a wonderful Cali Chard, exhibiting classic tropical fruit elements, along with oak and it's vanilla cohort.

Probably because of the daily house wine glass that I used to drink this delicious Chard, there wasn't much of a bouquet. Had I used a higher-quality glass, I might have perceived some actual bouquet characteristics.

Flavor-wise, this is a wonderful, delicious Cali Chard. There's the typical tropical fruit profile (pineapple and mango, as well as peach and apricot elements), along with an herbal and white pepper profile, in addition to hints/suggestions of beeswax and honey. This wine was obviously aged in oak, since there's a rich, creamy, vanilla essence to the wine.

This is a very tasty, creamy, slightly oaky, delicious Cali Chard. It's smooth, well-balanced, and has a gorgeous/lingering finish.

I paired this wine with seared scallops in a curried butter. I LOVE scallops and Cali Chards; I think they're a match made in heaven. This Chardonnay paired beautifully with the curried butter scallops and would also pair well with butter-poached lobster and other rich/creamy white fish dishes.

This wine is drinking VERY well right now and if aged properly, should continue to age and mature well for another two to three years. This is one of the best Cali Chards I've had in the past year or two (especially for the Santa Barbara area). Some of the state's best Chards come from the Russian River Valley, but if/when done right, the Santa Barbara area can also produce fabulous Chardonnays. The Bien Nacido vineyard is world famous for obvious reasons; their Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays are some of the best from the state. This bottle is a shining example of how good Santa Barbara County Chardonnays can be!!!
