April 13, 2019 - Double decant 24 hours before consuming. It didn’t transform this wine into a Yquem, and the tennis balls didn’t fully go away. Still quite enjoyable. 93-94. Don’t think I’d ever score this wine higher than a 94, and clearly have a preference for giving this wine a lot of air (at least a few hours every time, if not longer).

Nose: Mango, saffron, slightly overripe apricot, coconut, toasted coconut
Palate: apricot mango marmalade, slight coconut, slight tennis balls, subtle sweet lime.
Texture: Slightly oily but not cloying.

March 10, 2019 - 2001 Sauternes Horizontal Tasting: This was already quite graceful when we first poured it. The stone fruits were creamy and the acidity made it seem almost lean, especially when comparing it to the other Sauternes of the evening.

It is great Sauternes for a large savory meal. It had richness to stand up to bold flavors but enough acid to mingle with meat. There were also more exotic aromas like saffron and nutmeg.

Tasting it the second time around it seemed more coy, though this is relative to the other wines.

Lovely stuff I wish to have again some day.

January 28, 2019 - Similar to the last bottle, but perhaps acidity seemed a bit lower. Orange marmalade and honey dominate. Dense on the palate.

January 18, 2019 - Drank with friends, so no super-formal notes, but this bottle was rocking! Wonderful spicy botrytis, coconut, and rich tropical fruit all over the place. The wine was rich and weighty without at all being heavy. Just a great bottle and wish I had more!

January 2, 2019 - Needs time and decant but delicious. Wonderful purity and length although still quite primary.

December 25, 2018 - I have to give the same rating from 3 months ago. Everything about the wine is utter perfection, but the finish is out of this world, and lasts 120 seconds plus. As mentioned previously, the secret to enjoying this wine to the full, is aeration in an open bottle or decanter for at least 24 and preferably 36 hours. This is what decadence is all about! Check my notes that this is the only perfect 100 points I've ever given.

December 15, 2018 - East Bay Burgundy Group - Holiday Dinner Party: I almost never drink sweet wines in recent years, but this was utterly delicious and in a wonderful place for current drinking. Another wine I could have curled up with for the evening. A great close for an outstanding group of wines.

December 12, 2018 - Opened for a family dinner. The 2001 Suduiraut has a lovely colour of golden fruit and a rich nose of apricots, cumquats, lemons, honey and crème brulee. The palate has an initial caressing fruit and honey character that is balanced by real grip and acidity that provides excellent length and an appetite for the next glass. A terrific success in 2001.
