March 15, 2024 - Great wine. I’d say this more mid stride than fading.
February 24, 2024 - This is a terrific bottle of wine. I have 2024 down as the last year in the drink window. One bottle left. While the wine does not show any signs of tiring, I will likely drink the last bottle later this year. It used to require a decant. This bottle was just opened for an hour and a half.....did not need a decant. Warning.......the cork broke in half.
January 18, 2024 - Open for about 30 minutes followed by a one and a half hour decant. Still drinking very well. No signs of it tiring.
November 21, 2023 - Drinking really well. A rich full bodied cabernet within lots of lush dark fruit, spice, cassis, soft tannins with velvety smooth finish.
November 17, 2023 - Excellent wine with a Chile poco carne meal. Smooth like a velvet glove with a firm hold on the fruit, mineral and earth tones that run through this wine. Tannins only showed by holding it together, this was a sleek and pleasurable glass to the end.
February 22, 2023 - Way too grape-y!
January 11, 2023 - Enjoyed subsequent to the 2010 Shafer Hillside Select. Although not quite as deep and rich as the Hillside, this is an outstanding wine. Displays a plethora of black fruits, wonderful balance, very good complexity, and a long finish. Perfect for the grilled ribeyes. Drink through 2030.
November 13, 2022 - In the bouquet ripe dark berries, sweet spices, red berries, eucalyptus, sweet licorice. Same on the palate, chocolate, beautiful acidity and round tannin with a lovely bite. Some pleasant sweetness as well. Beautiful and delicious wine in its early maturity stage.
July 13, 2022 - Anniversary tradition continues. We opened another bottle of our wedding wine to celebrate the day.
The blue fruit notes are in full swing and the glycerin is starting to back off with more herb and mineral notes coming through at this point. The Abv is starting to show, so I recommend a quick decant and starting drinking before the fruit drops further.
January 31, 2022 - a good new world wine, full of black currant initially with smooth tannin, then it's growing with vanilla, later slight mint and then give out dry plum.
The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis), vanilla and mint. It tastes like black currant (cassis) and vanilla. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has medium acidity.
