December 26, 2019 - Don't believe them... This wine was far from tired... Definitely not going to get better, but perfect for wife's 58th birthday... she couldn't get enough.... More blueberry flavors than the usual raspberry for older Granges....

December 14, 2019 - This wine is still quite memorable... but is giving way to a touch of a port like character. Drink it up

July 2, 2019 - Very dark. The nose has mint, dark chocolate, coffee and black fruit. Concentrated, medium body, chocolate and black fruit palate. Tannin is present throughout and the acid is right. Long finish. This is maturing and is in no way feeble.... has been cellared well.

April 30, 2019 - Penfolds Grange dinner with Stephanie Dutton (The Musket Room in NYC): Of course the eucalyptus. This has a nice beginning with some fruit that jumps out of the glass. A bit more of a drying tannin than some of the others. Some herbal and spice notes. It's good. Got overshadowed a bit by the '86 which was just brilliant.

January 20, 2019 - fully matured and perhaps even going down, but in perfect balance now and you can sip all night and want more of this one. drank with 88 which outshone this vintage by a wide margin.

January 20, 2019 - Pnp. Sandalwood, cedar, violets, and black currant on the nose. Palate was very soft and delicate. The oak was fully resolved. Drinking in a beautiful spot now, but it did not last very long in the glass. Drink up.

September 24, 2018 - Pausing for the Cause 2018 (Chicago, IL): Shows an inordinate amount of well-integrated American oak. This is really bizarre, because the grape is syrah, and yet it reminds me far more of Unico than anything else. Ah well, still a brilliant wine, with an intensity and concentration that I love. Plenty of fruit that never goes over the top. Good acidity on the back end as well -- this is in the prime drinking window for me.

December 25, 2017 - Opened Christmas Day! Cork was soft and it made a mess! After filtering/ decanting several times back to a even and although enjoyed by all including myself, it left me wanting just a little bit more... some times when the expectation is so high it’s hard for me to rationalise ratings..! It’s all good when drinking grange in any case! That’s why I’m a drinker and very novice reviewer!
