December 25, 2023 - Wow, a lot of life left, easily another 5 years. Rich nose without being overripe.

Tight when opened with aromas of black olive, strong acid and a little thin on the finish.

Opened up nicely over two hours with violets, cedar, spice, plum and compost. Mouth feel filled out nicely, bright acidity keeps its lively and fresh. Could definitely benefit from a light decanting, but don’t shy away from holding on to it longer. One to watch.

April 14, 2022 - Deep purple in color with a strong nose.

Dry on the palate and full bodied with medium plus acidity.

Showing black fruits, oak, spices, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, chocolates, cola, acetone, light barnyard, vegetables and herbs.

Tangy and spicy. Rich and fruit forward.

A little past its prime, but still very drinkable.

Good by itself and better with food like a nice piece of steak. I paired it with cheeses and crackers.

A blend of 86% Syrah, 13% Grenache and 1% Viognier. Aged in French oak barrels for 27 months. A small production of only 5 barrels.

    88 points.

    $55.

April 24, 2020 - This bottling definitely shows Big Basin's earlier style of emphasizing rich ripeness. A big powerful wine that has mellowed with time, now goes perfectly with pulled pork. This was a cool enough climate Syrah it maintained structure and balance. From a cool cellar this is in a great place, fans of Aussie Shiraz would score this much higher!

November 16, 2019 - Decanted for 15 minutes, but definitely better with more air. Yielded some fine sediment. Even after opening, the wine was showing its age as the rather light blue and dark red fruit notes, and the earth and spice notes, were overshadowed by the assertive acidity. Probably would have been best through 2018.
