October 9, 2019 - Hmm, seems my CT inventory is off, insofar as this was definitely in my Eurocave but not in CT. Anywho...
PnP, this was showing very well on initial pour at slightly warmer than cellar temperature. As time wore on and temperature increased to room temp, it fell out of balance, with tannins becoming somewhat harsh, overpowering the still strong fruit. Still, at ten years in, this is drinking well, if you keep the temp under control.
March 31, 2019 - Disintegrated cork and flat bottle
October 26, 2018 - I opened this for my 10/26/18 Series III vertical tasting. It had a rich, ripe and very fragrant nose of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, plum, toast, licorice, pepper and spice aromas. The palate was rich, layered and dry with good lift…flavors of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, plum, toast, licorice, pepper, spice and minerals. 93+
August 24, 2018 - This was great but definitely a fruit bomb, with good earthiness showing through. Incredibly young at 9 years in.
November 11, 2017 - 14.5% abv. Thick black color, dark blue fruits, red licorice perfume. 10/10 on the delicious scale. $50
October 24, 2017 - Dark wine, lots of blue fruits, big flavor profile but not over done. Bottle had thrown quite a lot of sediment.
May 2, 2017 - Excellent wine, got better and better with air. Drinking well now, but could last another 5-7 years or so.
March 17, 2017 - Dark and opaque; big and concentrated, but one-dimensional and coarse. After a few swallows, tannin becomes too prominent relative to the fruit. High alcohol. It's pleasant at first but out of balance. Drank our last bottle and don't plan to buy more. Too much power and not enough flavor and roundness.
February 12, 2017 - I opened this for our 2/12/17 smoked beef back rib dinner. It had a rich, powerful bouquet of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, burnt toast, licorice and spice aromas. The palate was rich, layered and dry with flavors of blackberry, blueberry, mocha, cocoa, licorice and spice.
December 16, 2016 - Not as awful as others have described. Yes, ripe, opaque, and a bit over wrought, but a perfectly serviceable wine to sip on a brutally cold evening. As far as qpr- there are certainly far worse options one could pick from California...
