April 26, 2024 - Blind. 45 min decant then 1-2 hours of slow ox. Dark garnet in the glass. Nose of perfumed red fruit and a mild incense. Cedar, too.
Palate is soft and smooth with great acidity. The wine is very well balanced, especially for an 'off' year. Great acidic backbone, backing it all up. No hesitancy giving this one a 96 with enough air right now. Very Cab Franc dominant and most of us at the table tonight were loving it.
Not the greatest Bdx vintage but Angelus nailed it pretty well. 2+ hours of air serves this one really well, right now.
April 8, 2023 - Pronounced nose intensity with notes of red and black currant, spices, toast. Medium+ tannin and medium+ acidity. Full bodied and long finish.
May 11, 2022 - A lovely wine with a beautiful fragrance and perfume on the nose. Followed with a well balanced structure, with earthy and mineral tones, and a long and complex finished that left me wanting more
April 9, 2022 - Very nice wine, but still a bit tucked in on itself. Silky smooth, creamy, very well made indeed. As others have said, simply too young at the moment. Will it flower well, and give the pleasure that it seems to suggest, or will it dry out? All that aside, what on earth is the current market value all about? There is no way that the prices being charged make sense.... Each to their own, I suppose....
July 8, 2021 - Palooza part 2; 7/8/2021-7/10/2021 (Marco Island/Naples): Hard to rate this one as it was not only infanticide, but be pnp'd it at the table. Unmistakeably Angelus, but needs some time for the oak to integrate and mellow out. I would have loved to try this on day 2. Next time I might sneak a 4 oz glass bottle along to dinner...
July 8, 2021 - Final, bonus bottle of the night, also popped tableside half way through the meal and enjoyed through the end of the meal into dessert.....dark purple in the glass, excellent medium heavy viscosity with a beautiful dark berry nose with great perfumed florals initially. I really enjoyed the more 'modern' smooth feel to this wine after the two older BDXs earlier. I think even a Cali cab drinker would like this one where it is right now. This was quite pleasant with no harsh edges whatsoever. Clearly, this has many years ahead of it and who knows how many points it adds? For a somewhat 'off' year it was quite nice!
June 25, 2021 - Decanted for 3 hours. Immediate impression was that this was remarkably smooth and tannins were very integrated. Drinking well now for my tastes, and complex. Really enjoyed this.
February 10, 2021 - Small pour served into Acker Zalto Burgundy glass (“Root” day): Medium ruby.
Lots of premium oak.
Good red plummy and cherry fruits.
92 points.
December 30, 2020 - Thin with good structure. 91
