September 11, 2021 - Epic Bordeaux for an Epic Birthday!; 9/1/2021-9/12/2021 (Paris & Bordeaux): Super fun wine because it was the birth year of one of our friends at the dinner and so just very kind to bring it. This was drinking well to me. A bit overshadowed by the bottle we had after which surprised me in being my WOTN. Not sure why the difference. This was very well aged and leathery and cigar smoke and all of that.

October 20, 2019 - the best showing of the three bottles i picked up.

had good old world fruit, cranberry and herbal character, tobacco leaf. tea. very good showing for what's definitely an over the hill bottle.

June 19, 2019 - better showing the last but again also flawed or just too old.

August 14, 2018 - This fooled the lot at the tasting. No-one guessed 1973.

I cannot knock 'em. This was not acting apart. This could easily have been a good vintage in the 70's. Still a little fruit, good tannins (however, well integrated by now).
The 2nd and tertiary notes were the most forward ones. Heavy BBQ, sandalwood, cedar, dusty books and dry leaves. Hints of lavender as well. This was terrific.

    Should be enjoyed now.

January 24, 2018 - Complex nose of red berries, sauvage, charcoal and some dark fruits. A little bretty for my taste. Drinks slightly off with heavier "sauvage" if you want to be kind. Nice but not compelling.

March 9, 2012 - La Mission Haut Brion; 3/9/2012-3/10/2012 (Burg Staufeneck): From magnum, top shoulder. Sweet and earthy in the nose. On the palate forest, sweetness, unbelievably silky and elegant finish. A great bottle.
