February 29, 2024 - Complex scents of leather, mushrooms, and red fruits burst from the glass, followed by a dense and silky mid palate, all red fruited and displaying outstanding freshness and persistence. This is first rate and at peak, what a beauty !

January 16, 2023 - Still going in 2023 and still offering joy and enjoyment. A good bottle of this baby could last for a few more years but even as it exits stage left the elegantly faded sweet fruit and soft as silky velvet mouthfeel of this classic brings a smile to the face. Cigar, earth and amazingly fresh flavour dance on a medium finish.

January 16, 2023 - The 1961 Beychevelle shows well from the outset, initially reddish in its fruit but putting on black fruit notes quickly. Pepper, meat, a great deal of dark loam (almost Rhone-like) add complexity as the the wine unfurls and, despite the loaminess, there's admirable freshness and depth of fruit on the palate. Good persistence on the Beychevelle's trademark loamy finish.

A beautiful bottle with excellent ullage, color, and cork, sourced and consumed in Paris. Tasted blind.

December 26, 2022 - Drank on Christmas with waygu prime rib. Decanted about 2 hours before dinner. First hints of bricking. Initial notes of mushrooms which disappeared after about 2 and hour hours. Opened up to light notes to currents after 3 hours. Never developed any tertiary notes if tobacco or tar. Definitely on its last legs. Overall nice but nothing special.

January 8, 2022 - Our last bottle, opened tonight with friends and Beef Wellington. Beautiful , medium -weight, smooth, gorgeous old fruit, leather and tobacco. Unbelievable for 61 years old.
