February 29, 2024 - So fresh. Light caramel, orange acidity, so many bubbles to keep it alive and interesting. 93-94

December 1, 2022 - Piemonte: Back to the truffling!; 11/24/2022-12/3/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Such a pity - we’ve been drinking wines from this auction all week and had such luck and so didn’t think about a back-up bottle for this one. It is a ‘still wine from France’ and to be fair I actually can quite like that style although here it does seem like there’s maybe some extra oxidation. It blows off a bit with time. My initial reaction was this was perhaps a touch off, but it was interesting because once we started getting the terrine and potato/vegetable salad and vitello tonnato the wine really came alive a lot more. So not perfect, but very interesting and even enjoyable in the right structure.

July 19, 2021 - 15 Mature Bordeauxs Magnums (with Heitz MV in the mix): From magnum. What a wonderful Champagne! While this 1970 has not the stuffing of the best years, it was so fresh and vibrant without any hint of oxidation. In addition, it has with a very good precision and great balance. Sad we had to share this bottle. I could drink this all day every day. Technically the 95 pts are a stretch put the enjoyment level was just so damn high.

TN: Delicate perfume of nougat, toffee, brioche and butter on the very inviting nose. Nit super intense but nicely precise. Very fresh, young and still vibrant palate with fine mousse and the same aromas along some citrus and apple freshness. Very balanced and harmonious.

Decanting: Not decanted, no decanting needed.

July 3, 2021 - Magnum rarities tasting; 7/2/2021-7/3/2021 (Zunfthaus zur Waag, Zurich): Magnum rarities tasting hosted by a merchant and collector. The headline line-up of the main event featured 18 aged red wines from magnum which was preceded by warm-up tasting of a dozen aged reds. The highlights across both days were Chris Ringland 1998 (99), Montrose 1990 and Yquem 1948 (both 98). Also strong were Palmer 1989 (97), Cheval Blanc 1985 (97) and Léoville Poyferré 1990 (96). None of the wines were decanted prior to serving.

    Tasting note:
From magnum. Brioche, caramel, toasted bread, nuts, citrus fruit and some white stone fruit. I thought just a tiny bit oxidized, although fellow tasters did not share that view. Amazingly fresh palate with an unexpected amount of bubbles (given the age). Layered, finely grained with a brioche aftertaste. Amazingly this reminded me quite a lot of the 1990 despite the 20 year age difference!
